Our Story

How it all began

From a dance floor in San Jose to the green hills of Antioquia.

  1. Palm-lined street in downtown San Jose

    San Jose, California

    One dance

We met in San Jose, and no, it wasn’t at a hospital, even though Trinique is a physical therapist and Juan Pablo is an anesthesia and pediatrics resident. It happened on a dance floor: Juan Pablo, bad dance moves and all, worked up the courage to ask Trinique to dance.

  2. The Bay Bridge over the water at dusk

    Sunnyvale ↔ Oakland

    Across the Bay

That dance turned into dates, even though Juan Pablo lived in Sunnyvale and Trinique lived in Oakland, with most of the Bay Area in between.

  3. The Golden Gate Bridge seen from a rocky beach

    San Francisco

    Home

Eventually Juan Pablo moved closer to San Francisco, with a not-so-secret plan to get Trinique to leave Oakland. It worked: today we call San Francisco home together.

  4. Trinique and Juan Pablo smiling in an airplane seat with Amie the Shiba Inu on their laps Amie in a yellow Colombia bandana, licking her nose with one eye closed

    Our family

    And Amie

Home also means Amie, our seven-year-old Shiba Inu and our most loyal travel companion. She has camped with us in Yosemite, joined our late-night runs to Dandelion Chocolate for hot chocolate and cookies, flown to the East Coast to see family, and followed us all the way to Colombia.

  5. Easter 2026

    Growing in faith

Along the way, we’ve grown in our faith together while preparing for the sacraments, and Juan Pablo was confirmed at Easter 2026.

  6. The white glass domes of the Conservatory of Flowers behind palm trees and a flower bed

Conservatory of Flowers, Golden Gate Park

    The question

Surrounded by flowers at the Conservatory of Flowers, Juan Pablo asked Trinique to marry him, and she said yes. He had planned every detail in secret. A month earlier, he asked her parents for their blessing in Vietnamese. He built the ring himself, in a toi et moi design, French for “you and me”: two stones side by side, like our two very different cultures coming together. And because nothing matters more to Trinique than having the people she loves close, he arranged for her best friends to fly in and for both families to join on FaceTime, all without her knowing. In every detail, she felt how much he loved her.

  7. Green hills and farmland of the valley around La Ceja, Antioquia

    La Ceja, Antioquia

    The next chapter

On September 25, 2027, we’ll be married in La Ceja, in the green hills of Antioquia, and we would love for you to be there.

Attire

Black tie and colorful gowns

Gentlemen: tuxedos.

Ladies: bright and colorful long gowns.

La Ceja sits high in the Andes and evenings can be cool, so bring a wrap or jacket.

Two Cultures, One Celebration

Colombia & Việt Nam

Our wedding brings together where we each come from: Juan Pablo’s Colombia and Trinique’s Vietnam. Expect traditions, music and, above all, food from both sides of the family, shared at one table.

Discover the Region

Welcome to Antioquia

La Ceja sits in the green Andean highlands of Antioquia, the land of paisas, flower farms and some of the world’s best coffee. If you can, stay a few extra days and explore. Here are a few ideas.

Your presence is the gift

Having you with us is all we ask. Should you wish to give, we’d love a contribution to our honeymoon so we can see the Northern Lights (and buy enough hot chocolate to stay awake for them)!
